Dell Magazines announces Gardner Dozois is stepping down as Editor of Asimovs Science Fiction. Mr. Dozois will remain with the magazine as Contributing Editor, providing editorial guidance and interacting with readers via the Internet and at public events. After almost 20 years of producing the much-honored magazine, Mr. Dozois would like to take the time to pursue other projects, including his own writing.
Sheila Williams, the current Executive Editor of Asimovs Science Fiction, will be replacing Mr. Dozois as Editor. Ms. Williams, who has had a lifelong passion for SF, has been an integral part of Asimovs since starting at the magazine in June 1982. In addition to her fine work on the magazine, Ms. Williams has edited or co-edited more than 20 anthologies, her most recent being A Womens Liberation: A Choice of Futures By and About Women (co-edited with Connie Willis for Warner Aspect). She is also the co-founder of the Isaac Asimov Award for Undergraduate Excellence in Science Fiction and Fantasy Writing. Ms. Williams received her bachelor's degree from Elmira College in Elmira, New York, and her master's from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. During her junior year she studied at the London School of Economics.
Under Mr. Dozoiss direction, Asimovs Science Fiction has been honored with 32 Hugos, 15 Nebulas, and other awards. Mr. Dozois himself has received the Hugo award for Best Professional Editor 14 times in his stellar career. Dell Magazines is proud of the success Asimovs has enjoyed under Mr. Dozoiss fine command, and anticipates continued high quality under Ms. Williamss able leadership.
