Fabrice, I know- and according to the latest reports the Conservatives have been hit by a storm of criticism from grassroot Tories. They are quite furious and I can see UKIP picking up a lot of votes in the next General Election.
The problem Cameron faced was that with the Treaty ratified a referendum on it would have become a referendum on the EU itself and there is quite a good chance that a majority in the UK would have voted no. And that would have opened a very large can of worms.

A can of worms? Hell, no!!! A can of solutions. The best option for the EU is to say: "Perfide Albion, go home, leave us and stay on your island!". (and bring wth you the Czech Republic!!!).
Can you imagine? If I want to go to Britain, I must go through the customs and exchange my worthy euros for not very sterling Pounds! Unbearable and humiliating! And these damned english, they don't even speak the noble french language!
(PS: Well, maybe the Scots can stay with us ) .

Aye the Auld Alliance is still alive.
Well just remember that although you may get the whisky if you take the Scots you will also gain deep fried Mars bars, haggis and Irn Bru
The problem is Fabrice, I don't think it would stop with England and the Czechs- I would wager that given the opportunity the citizens of a few other states that might consider leaving the EU. edited by jimbraiden on 11/4/2009

Are the British on the Euro entirely?
I was just wondering, since that means Australia and Canada would be the only countries with the damned Queen on their money!

No Britain is still on sterling. And don't forget New Zealand.

There are even french islands with the queen on the money (Jersey, Guernesey, ...etc)
Fewer countries in the EU would be very good news: for instance, you could take the polish plumbers with you.

I thought New Zealand had replaced the Queen with Lucy Lawless?
And Fabrice, we all know the French just did that to be ironic.

Jersey and Guernesey aren't any more French than St. Pierre and Miquelon are Canadian. I was told the French are weak in geography but that sure beats all!

I know my geography. I even lived less than 100 km from these islands, and went there several times, so I know where they are.

Well you've got me beat in one respect. You've actually been there. I once tried to get there (Jersey) from St.-Malo on a hydrofoil, which was taken out of service due to weather. However, waiting alongside me were some native Jerseyans (?). I can guarantee you they weren't French. I normally avoid posting links but I quickly found a good one for anyone who thinks Jersey is French: http://www.bbc.co.uk/jersey/content/articles/2006/10/06/out_little_island_feature.shtml.
Perhaps, living so close to France as they do, their French is quite good, which might have led you to confuse them with actual Frenchmen.
