I just noticed this at the top of Locus Online: "Locus Magazine welcomes new short fiction reviewer Gardner Dozois, whose first column appears next month in the October issue." Yippee! I'm very much looking forward to this. If his succint but informative comments on the "Best New Stories of 2008" thread here are any indication, Locus readers should be in for a treat. (I do hope, however, that this doesn't mean Rich Horton is leaving the magazine.)

Rich is not leaving, as far as I know. He does, in fact, a far more comprehensive job than I will ever do. I'm only mentioning stuff that catches my eye, and there'll be a lot that never gets mentioned at all.

Hmmm, Locus could make a headline out of that. "Gardner Refuses To Review Unmentionables."

Or just shorten the column name to "Gardner's Unmentionables".

Congratulations, Gardner.

Way to go for Locus anmd for Gardner! Seems like a win-win for everyone.

Yeah, I weigh 800 pounds. All muscle. Really. Well, mostly muscle. Well, the doctor said that I had muscles -- hundreds of them.

Maybe you can all help me name the column, since they insist it have a name (I was calling it "short fiction"), and you seem inclined to make suggestions anyway.

The current frontrunner is "GardnerSpace." I'm firmly resisting "Gardner's Garden." "Dozois's Domain" has also been suggested, but I don't much like that either.

I kind of like I AM NOT CTHULHU!, but I doubt that LOCUS would go for it.

I deny that I've ever eaten Rich Horton, in either sense of the word.

Of all the titles people suggested, I like Matt's "Under the Gardner's Eye" the best.
