Dominica Phetteplace receives prestigious Rona Jaffe Writers Award

On September 14, Asimov’s author Dominica Phetteplace received one of the prestigious Rona Jaffe Writers Awards. The award is given to six emerging women writers. According to the foundation, the award recognizes “the special contributions women writers make to our culture and society.” Each winner receives a $30,000 prize to “make writing time available.” Dominica’s novel in progress, Project Empathy, made a significant impression on the judges. Five pieces from the novel have previously been published in Asimov’s. According to Asimov’s Editor Sheila Williams, “My daughter and I attended the elegant award ceremony at the Lotos Club in Manhattan as guests of Dominica. We had a lovely time meeting the winners, the awards’ administrators, and the other guests.”
